Cleveland school district aims to split underperforming JFK High School into smaller schools next fall

CLEVELAND, Ohio - John F. Kennedy High School will be split into three schools next fall, with teams of teachers and community members deciding what form the new schools will take.

Two new schools will be created under the JFK roof using a $3 million grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, while the existing JFK diploma tracks remain as a third choice or are phased out over the next few years.

District administrator Christine Fowler-Mack said the change is a major one for the district, which has promoted school choices by creating or converting schools to national school models - like the New Tech high schools, using a plan developed in California.
