Welcome to the 2024-25 school year! The Cleveland High School for Digital Arts' mission is to engage, prepare, and challenge students through the digital arts. It is our goal to create a safe and welcoming environment, adopt best practices to ensure students attend school regularly, and develop an engaging, innovative, and rigorous curriculum. As we work throughout the year, our conditions for learning, attendance, and academics will be our focus, as we strategically plan to engage parents, students, and community partners to build this school of choice

All stakeholders should know the following points. Firstly, a good school starts with strong safety, support, and socio-emotional learning; this is why CFL is our first priority. These sorts of conditions can predetermine a student's attendance. Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student's academic success. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life.

Attendance is our second priority. CHSDA realizes some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. However, we also know that when students miss school too much--regardless of the reason -- it can cause them to fall behind academically. Your child is less likely to be successful if he or she is chronically absent--which means missing 10 or more days over the course of an entire school year. Absences add up quickly. Research shows that by 9th grade, good attendance can predict graduation rates even better than 8th grade test scores. Clearly, going to school regularly matters! We don't want our students to fall behind in school and get discouraged. Please ensure that your child attends school every day, arrives on time, and leaves only when the school day ends.

Our last priority, rigor, calls for students to master competencies and learn content topics through project-based learning. Teachers will work on developing performance tasks that are aligned to the major skills in each discipline in order to assess student learning and provide feedback.

With these priorities in mind, our school inspires and educates students to engage their intellect and artistic ideas to cultivate their full individual and collective potential in the service of the greater community. I am inspired by our students on a daily basis and we are lucky to attract the type of students who strive to make a positive and creative impact on their world and the greater city of Cleveland. We want our CHSDA family to be successful and we cannot wait to meet you all this year! Let's have a transformative year.
