    Dear Falcon Families,

    Welcome back to a new and exciting school year! I hope this letter finds you and your family well and that you enjoyed a restful and rejuvenating summer break. As we embark on this new academic year, I am filled with enthusiasm and optimism for the great things we will achieve together. Our dedicated staff has been working diligently to prepare for the return of our students, ensuring that we provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for all. This year, we are thrilled to introduce several new initiatives aimed at enhancing our students' educational experience. Families will learn about our new initiatives and focuses on the orientation dates listed below:

    • Tuesday, August 6, 2024: 12th Grade Meeting (Seniors) at 6:00pm at Garrett Morgan
    • Wednesday, August 7, 2024: 9th Grade (Freshmen) at 6:00pm at Garrett Morgan
    • Thursday, August 8, 2024 10th and 11th Grade (Sophomores and Juniors) at 6:00pm at Garrett Morgan

    Our commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive community remains as strong as ever. We understand that the partnership between home and school is vital to the success of our students. We encourage you to stay engaged, participate in school events, and communicate with us regularly. Your involvement and support play a crucial role in your child's educational journey.

    Please mark your calendars for our back to school event for all of our families on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 3:00pm-5:00pm. This will be an opportunity for families to meet teachers, receive technology, and receive their upcoming class schedule. In addition, to get each grade level acclimated, we have adjusted the official “first day of school” to the following:

    • Monday, August 19: First Day of School for 11th and 12th Grades Only (9th/10th do not report)
    • Tuesday, August 20: First Day of School for 9th and 10th Grades Only (11th/12th do not report)
    • Wednesday, August 21: All Grades Report

    Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. We are honored to be a part of their academic journey and are committed to providing a “gateway to the world." Here's to a fantastic school year filled with learning, growth, and memorable experiences!

    Mission Statement: Relationships. Rigor. Results.

    Education Focus: Garrett Morgan School of Engineering and Innovation is a gateway to the world. We offer four courses focused on engineering: Introduction to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, Digital Electronics, and Industrial Robotics. Through these courses, our students develop a strong foundation in areas such as 3D modeling, circuits, physics, and technical drawings. Our students are equipped with the necessary knowledge to further their education in STEM fields, and have the opportunity to earn certificates and industry credentials that they can use in the workforce. With a focus on developing well-rounded students with strong critical thinking skills and leadership capabilities, our curriculum introduces students to a variety of academic subjects and materials, with opportunities for exploration of the arts. Garrett Morgan School of Engineering and Innovation graduates are ready for life after high school - whether it's college or career.

    With an overall focus of educating students in engineering and sciences, our curriculum is developed in a way to introduce students to a variety of academic subjects and materials with arts enhancement.

    Housed on a new site right off the lake in an arts-rich community, GMSEI will have a project-based approach to understand and embrace engineering and will offer a plethora of science courses also. GMSEI is for the student who is into science, math, the arts, enjoys thinking critically, and using their creativeness to problem-solve. Students will become engaged in compelling, real-world challenges to become better collaborators and thinkers.

    Students will graduate enriched by real-world work exposure and prepared for the 21st century by participating in an internship/externship. Garrett Morgan School of Engineering students will be college and career ready upon graduation.

    GMSEI has 4 values in which our school stands on: Pride, Integrity, Responsibility, and Leadership. These values are driven by a commitment to see our students become life-long learners, productive citizens, and academically successful. These values are the standard for our faculty, staff, and students and guide the way we interact with our parents, community, and stakeholders.
