Julian Jackson-Ross (Coach J)

Julian Jackson-Ross proudly serves as the Athletic Director of Rhodes High School, where he oversees one of the most accomplished and respected athletic programs within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD). A native Clevelander and lifelong supporter of student-athlete development, Coach J has dedicated his career to creating opportunities that combine education, athletics, and character building.

Under his leadership, Rhodes Athletics has grown into the winningest program in CMSD, with 16 competitive sports teams representing the school across all major athletic seasons. From football and basketball to track, tennis, and volleyball, Mr. Jackson-Ross has worked tirelessly to ensure that every student-athlete has access to quality coaching, resources, and experiences that foster success both on and off the field. His vision is simple yet powerful — to build a program that not only wins games, but also builds leaders, strengthens community pride, and shapes futures.

Mr. Jackson-Ross believes that sports are a direct extension of the classroom. He emphasizes the importance of discipline, academic accountability, and teamwork as essential life skills that transcend athletics. His commitment to holistic student growth has helped numerous Rhodes athletes transition successfully into college programs, trades, and professional careers, continuing the proud legacy of Rhodes alumni who make an impact in their communities.

Throughout his tenure, Mr. Jackson-Ross has also prioritized equity and inclusion in athletics, ensuring that both boys’ and girls’ programs receive equal opportunities and support. He has expanded partnerships with local organizations, strengthened community engagement, and enhanced school spirit through athletic events that unite students, families, and alumni under one mission — to make Rhodes the standard of excellence within CMSD Athletics.

When he’s not on the sidelines cheering on the Rams, Coach J can be found mentoring young coaches, collaborating with district leadership, and continuously strategizing ways to elevate the Rhodes athletic experience for future generations.
