Cavs help CMSD families celebrate Thanksgiving
Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen recently treated some CMSD students to pre-Thanksgiving grocery shopping and helped the children learn a math lesson at the same time.
Allen, a STEM buff, hosted 25 Orchard STEM School students at his annual Meals + Math outing. Each received a $100 gift card to buy groceries for their families at Giant Eagle, along with a calculator so they could add up prices and try to stay within their budgets.
Cavaliers players, coaches and team executives also brightened the Thanksgiving holiday for some CMSD families by serving them a dinner at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
The Thankful for ALL meal, with 150 guests, is an annual event. The gathering marked the start of the team’s 2022 Season of Giving.
The families participate in Project ACT, which provides instructional and support services to children who are experiencing homelessness, other economic hardship or similar situations.
“This dinner is a very special event for our students, and it is one of the most exciting things that they have the opportunity to do, especially the children who don’t have the chance to sit down at a Thanksgiving dinner,” said Marcia Zashin, Project ACT director. “It’s something that they will always remember.“
Aramark, Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse’s official food and beverage provider, donated the dinner.
