Lynae Howard, John Marshall School of Information Technology

Notable: One of three students picked to offer greetings at the announcement of Cleveland as a Say Yes to Education city. Principal Chelsey Cook Kohn said Lynae demonstrated “amazing growth” during her time at John Marshall IT. “I don't think we have a better senior leader in the building.  She is an athlete who fully embodies what it means to be team captain.”

High school resume:

  • Honor roll student
  • Senate all-star in volleyball, basketball and softball
  • Hosted pep rallies

Plans for the future: Not sure yet what she wants to study or be but is considering attending Cuyahoga Community College and perhaps the University of Akron.

Challenges faced: Trying to find herself. And taking tests. Says she is not a test person.

Who deserves the most credit for her success? Her mom for keeping her focused, a sister whose graduation from Kent State served as inspiration, coaches who monitored her grades and a teacher, Krystle Williams, who was like a second mom.

Quote: “No matter how hard things get, I just hope that I’m successful in life.”
