    6/29/2016 -- The field at Bump Taylor Stadium will be completed in time for the 2016 season. The Browns previously broke ground on fields at John F. Kennedy and James Ford Rhodes high schools and will finish both of those in time for the season as well.

    6/29/2016 -- A group of 10 men and women huddled around tables in a classroom at the East Professional Center this week to discuss ways they could improve Maya Angelou School. The participants in CMSD's third annual Aspiring Principals Academy were talking about challenges faced by the fictional school, which is based on an actual District school, as a part of the rigorous training program for future school leaders.

  • Parent participation tops 90 percent

    6/27/2016 -- CMSD’s parent participation continued to increase dramatically during the 2015-16 school year, with nearly 91 percent of parents and caregivers attending conferences with their children’s teachers. The number was up from 79.8 percent last year and 73.2 percent in 2013-14, the first time the data was kept.

  • Board places renewal on ballot

    6/28/2016 -- The Cleveland Board of Education is asking voters to renew the operating levy that made the reforms in The Cleveland Plan possible. The Board of Education voted 8 to 0 Tuesday to place the renewal on the Nov. 8 ballot. Voter approval would extend the levy for four years but would not raise taxes.

  • District revises building plans

    7/1/2016 -- CMSD has added a new Douglas MacArthur Girls’ Leadership Academy to the list of schools that will be built in the next few years. The project is among several updates made to the eighth segment of a construction and renovation program that the District began in 2001.

  • Science and Medicine celebrates 10th anniversary

    6/9/2016 -- The Cleveland School of Science and Medicine is now 10 years old – a blip in the life of an educational institution but enough time for the school to have already recorded significant accomplishments. One of three small schools at the John Hay Campus in University Circle, CSSM gives urban students a pathway to the fields of science and medicine, with the hope that many will stay or return to serve their community.

  • New school to have space at MetroHealth

    6/9/2016 -- CMSD’s new Lincoln-West School of Science and Health will be based partly at the MetroHealth System’s main campus. District and hospital leaders believe the school, which will open July 25 with ninth- and 10th-graders, may be the only one in the country located within a hospital.

  • Garrett Morgan gets the gold for healthy ways

    6/7/2016 -- The school is the first-ever gold-award winner from Ohio in the Healthy Schools Program since it was launched in 2006. The program evaluates the ways schools promote nutrition, health education and physical activity and create a healthy environment for students and staff.
