With Cuyahoga County facing the worst spike yet in COVID-19 cases, CEO Eric Gordon is recommending that the District extend remote learning for most students through Jan. 22, the end of the second quarter.
Besides public health conditions, the CEO based his decision on consultation with health experts, feedback from parents, caregivers and educators and participation data from remote learning.
Gordon said experts believe the spike will worsen into January and possibly through February before subsiding with anticipated access to vaccines. He and his team will continue to monitor public health data and plan to announce a recommendation for the first half of the third quarter in early January.
In October, the CEO recommended extending remote learning until at least Dec. 21, the start of winter break.
