A portion of St. Clair Avenue by Glenville High School will now be known as Principal Jacqueline W. Bell Way.

Bell retired this year after more than 20 years as principal at Glenville High School.

During a naming ceremony last week, Cleveland City Councilman Kevin Conwell said the legislation for the name change was passed unanimously by council.

“And Mayor Justin Bibb signed off on it immediately,” said Conwell, who represents the Glenville neighborhood. “That is how much respect Jackie has in the city of Cleveland.”

Many who spoke referred to how much Bell loves the Glenville neighborhood.

“I know what Jackie means to the community and this community means to Jackie,” said Latonia Davis, the current Glenville principal.

Bell hopes the students who walk or drive down the street on their way to Glenville remember that she loves them.

“I want you to walk with pride,” Bell told the students at the ceremony. “Follow your dreams and know you can make your dreams come true if you work hard enough.”
