Imagine a school where your child designs and engineers a state-of-the-art space module for landing on Mars: In science class, he configures the optimal shape of his real-world project; then double-checks the precise measurements of the space station in math class; in art class, he builds a scale model of his space module; in history class, he studies the lessons learned when a space rover once crashed for lack of precise measurements.
At Almira Pre-K-8 Academy, students engage in 21st Century project-based learning, using critical thinking and problem solving across subjects. Almira has dedicated, caring teachers who bring science, technology, engineering and math to life in every subject. This supports Almira's mission to assist all students in achieving high standards of excellence academically, socially and emotionally. We provide a safe environment that fosters positive relationships and mutual respect among students, and parents, while cultivating and creating success beyond high school.
Almira is located in a beautiful and welcoming new building that features state-of-the-art music and art classroom, gym, and media center that enhances our colorful, interactive classrooms. Technology is integrated into daily lessons, which include student response systems, and other interactive programs such as Accelerated Reader, Study Island, First in Math and Imagine Learning.
At Almira, we partner closely with several community agencies: Experience Corp tutors for grades K-3; before and after school tutoring to support and enhance the academic curriculum; parent volunteers who assist with the breakfast and lunch programs and help support the office staff.
Almira students participate in boys and girls basketball, cheerleading, Boy Scouts and other school clubs and activities. Students receive special services of: vision exams and glasses, dental exams and treatments, BMI screening, and counseling services through Applewood Centers Inc.
All CMSD schools provide a full continuum of services for students with mild to moderate learning and behavioral issues. Depending on the child’s needs, he or she may receive instruction in the regular education classroom with accommodations and supports, or in a small-group resource room setting for some subjects, or in a single classroom environment for all core subjects. All CMSD schools have access to speech/language pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, audiology, and orientation/mobility services. For children with multiple or low-incidence disabilities, severe cognitive delays, or significant emotional/behavioral concerns, CMSD offers specialized classes within schools in every region of the city.
The District provides yellow bus service grades K-5 for all students who live at least a mile from their “assigned school.” In grades 6 through 12, CMSD will pay the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority to transport students who live at least a half-mile from their “assigned school.” If a student chooses to attend another school that isn’t their “assigned school” or a designated “specialty” school, then the District may not be able to provide transportation services. For information about transportation options, call 216.634.7020. Additional services available from Pre-K to 12 based on a student’s special needs and Individual Education Plan. Contact the student's IEP case manager at the school for details.
