Some students at Marion C. Seltzer Elementary School practice reading aloud to dogs! They are a part of the “Seltzer Pup Star Reading” program started by teacher Lisa Swet.
This is the third year for the awards, a partnership between the George Gund and Cleveland foundations, the District and the Cleveland Teachers Union. The goal is to spread best practices by honoring teachers who set a standard of excellence and serve as an example for their peers.
Ethel Hicks' job is to oversee the lunchroom operations for hundreds of students at Marion C. Seltzer School -- and she does that well -- but her impact on the students stretches far beyond the walls of the cafeteria.

While Cleveland Metropolitan School District offers no-costs meals to all students during the school year, children must meet certain eligibility requirements to receive Summer EBT benefits. If your household income is at or below 185% of the federal poverty level, your school-aged children may qualify.
