    • www.Artpad.com is a digital canvas where students can express their creativity or view the saved artwork of others, including animations of how others formed their masterpieces.
    • Kids learning Web sites for the New York Philharmonic (www.nyphilkids.org) and the San Francisco Symphony (www.sfskids.org) are outstanding Web sites for learning about music, instruments, composition, symbols, rhythm and more. Both sites offer students opportunities to talk with people in the symphony and to experiment with creating their own music.
     

    Government

    • The U.S. government Web site for kids about money (www.usmint.gov/kids) and how it’s made, includes information on state coins, newly minted coins going into circulation and rare historic coins, including artifacts and treasure coins from shipwrecks. “This site also contains a lot of information about saving money,” said Holewinski.

    • At the official Web site of the White House (http://www.whitehouse.gov), students can take a virtual tour and learn interesting facts about the White House, the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, Camp David, and Air Force One. They can also study past presidents, learn about the various agencies, look up executive orders, and read blogs, and even view the president’s weekly video.

    Homework Helpers 

    • www.KhanAcademy.org -Learn almost anything for free. Khan Academy is an organization on a mission. They're a not-for-profit with the goal of changing education for the better by providing a free world-class education for anyone anywhere. All of the site's resources are available to anyone. It doesn't matter if you are a student, teacher, home-schooler, principal, adult returning to the classroom after 20 years, or a friendly alien just trying to get a leg up in earthly biology. Khan Academy's materials and resources are available to you completely free of charge.

    • www.Worldalmanacforkids.com – The online companion to the leading best-selling reference book for kids. There’s a lot of new material in the 2009 edition, including a Harry Potter retrospective, a Spanish language lesson, and information about notorious criminals in history—along with thousands of games, quizzes, contests, homework help, and reference facts on topics such as space, presidents, the environment, animals, geography and historical.

    • www.Bartleby.com combines the best of both contemporary and classic reference works into the most comprehensive public reference library ever published on the Internet, providing students, researchers and the intellectually curious with unlimited access to books and information on the Web, free of charge.

    • www.thatquiz.org is a math and science quiz site that covers Integers, fractions, different concepts, geometry, geography and science.

    Learning Games

    • www.Funbrain.com is a popular online destination for interactive, educational games for children of all ages. Search for a game by grade level (Pre-K – 12) title, or subject (math, science, history, reading). Funbrain’s games and tools teach everything from how to build Web pages in HTML to how to spell with Spellaroo.

    Math

    • www.Coolmath.com is an animated, fun Web site designed for ages 3-100, offering interactive math games, puzzles, an online calculator, and a coloring book. There are also suggestions for how to succeed in math and how to find a career in mathematics.
    • www.nlvm.usu.edu – National Library of Virtual Manipulatives is a digital library containing Java applets and activities for K-12 mathematics with links to standards, interactive manipulatives of snowflake fractals and ladybug mazes. 
      “This is an outstanding site, and it’s really one of the best out there,” says Cassie Holewinski.

    Miscellaneous Tools 

    • www.graphite.org offers reviews and ratings for educational websites and apps categorized by grade level and subject area.
    • www.teachertube.com was created to fill a need for a more educationally focused, safe venue to provide anytime, anywhere professional development with teachers teaching teachers. It is also a site where teachers can post videos designed for students to view in order to learn a concept or skill.
    • Are you sick of posting a URL in e-mails only to have it break when sent causing the recipient to have to cut and paste it back together? www.Tinyurl.com is a useful Web site that takes long URL and shortens them. By entering a URL in the text field provided, it will create a tiny URL that will not break in e-mail postings.
    • www.Wordle.net is a Web site that generates a collage of words or “word clouds” from text that you provide, such as spelling words, vocabulary or literature. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. Kids can tweak their clouds with different fonts, layouts and color schemes.     • www.infohio.org has lots of learning tools for free for Ohio educators and students.
    • www.Starfall.com is used by teachers in the classroom and by parents at home to reinforce a student's love of reading by using friendly, colorful and active games.
    • At www.Storylineonline.net, visitors can watch videos of famous actors Al Gore, Jason Alexander, Amber Rose Tamblyn, and Haylie Duff reading popular kids books.

    Social Studies
