James A. Garfield serves students enrolled in Pre-Kindergarten through grade 8. As a high demand school within the Cleveland portfolio, our enrollment trend the past few years averages 560 scholars. Garfield enrollment also includes identified gifted and talented scholars from grades 3-6 with 7th and 8th grade Honors course offerings.
The faculty and staff at James A. Garfield take pride in a spirit of excellence and are dedicated to providing our scholars with a safe, secure, and caring environment where the highest quality education can be achieved. Garfield provides a family-oriented, challenging educational atmosphere that provides developmental for our scholars. It is our desire that our scholars learn the value of making good decisions and achieving academically at the highest levels possible.
We believe that each scholar can learn the skills that will enable them to be successful citizens and leaders in our rapidly changing global society. Our faculty utilizes the most effective research-based practices and instructional strategies to ensure our scholars have access to the best possible opportunities for learning.
We also believe that parents play a critical role in the success of their children and that the home-school partnership is the most important relationship that can be established and maintained for children.

This is the third year for the awards, a partnership between the George Gund and Cleveland foundations, the District and the Cleveland Teachers Union. The goal is to spread best practices by honoring teachers who set a standard of excellence and serve as an example for their peers.
