Less than three weeks after winning the first football state title for Glenville High School and the CMSD, it was announced Monday that head coach Ted Ginn, Sr. will receive a coveted Lifetime Achievement Award during the 23rd Greater Cleveland Sports Awards.  

The Illustrious award, which will be presented by Union Home Mortgage, is a crowning achievement in Ginn’s legendary career as a Football and Track and Field coach. Past winners of the award include CC Sabathia, Sandy Alomar Jr., Bernie Kosar, Chuck Kyle, who retired in November as coach of Saint Ignatius High School, and all-time NFL great Jim Brown.   

Ginn who has coached at Glenville High School for nearly 50 years, became the head coach in 1997.  During the recent Tarblooder Celebration Day after clinching the Division IV State Title, Cleveland Metropolitan School District CEO Eric Gordon talked about Ginn’s winning record:    

“In his 25 seasons, Ginn has 240 wins and 60 loses, 19 state playoff appearances, four regional championships and three state championship games - so far,” said Gordon.

Ginn is also instrumental in assisting over 300 student-athletes in attending college with more than 100 receiving scholarships from Division I schools.    

The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to a person who has dedicated their lives to the advancement of sports in Cleveland. Few local sportsmen in Cleveland’s modern history can lay a stronger stake to that claim.
