Head of School
Mr. Michael Parks
Michael Parks is a 25-year educator with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. During my 17 years as a classroom teacher, I have taught middle school ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Math Intervention for grades PK-8, and middle school ELA via ZOOM during the pandemic. I've coached chess, basketball, coordinated the Brotherhood Respect Intelligence Conduct Knowledge (BRICK) program, served on the Union Conference Committee, and served as the Department Head of Social Studies. I have been fortunate to teach all four core subjects, on both sides of the city. In 2004-2005, I was inducted into Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
I entered administration through the first cohort of the Aspiring Principal's Program in 2014, in which we partnered with the New York City Leadership Academy (NYCLA). After the program, I was assigned as Assistant Head of School here at KCBLA, under the leadership of Mr. Jacky Brown. I served as Assistant Principal for five more years at Waverly School and Nathan Hale Elementary School. As an administrator, I am involved with Men Of Color Shaping Academics (MOCHA).
I received my Associate of the Arts Degree from Cuyahoga Community College, Bachelor's of Science Degree from Central State University, and Master's Degree from Cambridge College in Boston, Massachusetts. While at Central State, I was nominated Mr. College of Education.
Personally, I grew up in the inner city, in a single-parent household, and have also lived in the suburbs. I have a love, passion, and sense of purpose for what I do. This is not just a job, but it's ministry work for me, and I like what I do, and I love what I do! I am blessed to serve as Head of School.
My wife and I have been married for 20 years, and together we have two daughters and one son.
