Ms. Kimberly Smith
My name is Kimberly Smith. I am the School Librarian and the Girls Tennis Coach and the Bowling Coach. I grew up in the Glenville neighborhood and I am excited to be working at Glenville High School where my mother Beverly Stovall – Smith graduated from here in 1966 along with a host of other family members. I am a product of Cleveland Metropolitan School District. I graduated from the Cleveland School of Performing Arts where I majored in Dance. I want to encourage students to read by offering Literacy Activities, Book Clubs and teach the students on how to find Reliable Research Resources.
My parents keep me involved in many activities growing up and I appreciate that now as an adult. When I was younger I did not. But I understand the importance of them keeping me engaged in various activities. My slogan is an Idle Mind can lead to a Crime. So, I encourage all Scholars to join a sport or an activity or club and or even start their own organization.
My WHY I am from a family of teachers. My parents, aunts, uncles and cousins all taught for Cleveland Public Schools. I wasn’t planning on going into the education profession. I couldn’t understand why my family members entered the field, and they were dedicated educators. So, I went to college majoring in Physical Therapy and my summer job after two years of college was a camp counselor. I was assigned to the younger campers. I absolutely loved it! All the counselors complimented me on how my campers’ followed instructions and the activities I planned for them. I felt so natural in this role. I announced to my family when heading back to college that I was going to change my major to Elementary Education. They were so proud of me and mentioned that I had a gift for caring for children. After teaching for 9 years, I was asked if I wanted to be the school librarian and I immediately said yes. This was great for me because I would have the opportunity to meet every student in the school. I quickly registered for classes and completed the courses while working as the school librarian. The school was Forest Hill Parkway. I was also a student there and now a staff member. I enjoyed going to the library and I would always enjoy the stories read to us by Ms. Clark and checking out books and just being so excited about reading. I wanted to create the same excitement for reading as I experienced it going up. I believe Leaders Are Readers!
