Our History
In early fall of 2007, under the visionary leadership of Cleveland Schools Superintendent Dr. Eugene T. W. Sanders; this single-gender academy was introduced as a new and unique opportunity school of choice within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.
The Academy provides innovative systematic instruction and methods specifically designed for young males that promote achievement in academics, such as English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. We also focus on skill development in auxiliaries, including fine arts, health, physical education, life skills, leadership, music, and technology.
We provide gifted education services to students that have been identified. Our scholars have and are moving beyond the middle school curriculum to complete instruction at a high school level and to begin college course work at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C).
Our students come from all the neighborhoods of Cleveland and beyond. We offer free yellow bus transportation to any scholar living beyond the walking limits of our school. Our first students have recently entered into adulthood. Many of our scholars played for Glenville High School Tarblooders championship football team that made CMSD history with consecutive wins. Our scholars have not only made gains in team sports, they have demonstrated leadership roles in and out of the school environment, earned scholarships to various colleges, became independent proprietors, and are continually showcasing their abilities as they grow and improve. Our alumnae have continued their pride of KCBLA in their endeavors and have returned to giving words of encouragement and tutoring support to a younger generation.
Joining Kenneth Clement Boys Leadership Academy (KCBLA) is joining a life-time community of support, but as we like to say, you are joining our family and our brotherhood.
