• Dear Parent/Guardians:

Our first priority is to ensure a safe and orderly school environment. In doing so, we must, not only, ensure that our current practices are aligned to the CMSD Code of Conduct, but also, implement practices that support safety and order at Hannah Gibbons. The following guidelines have been reviewed with your student and will be strictly enforced.

    Uniforms

We will adhere to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District dress code as outlined in the CMSD Code of Conduct. Students are permitted to wear dark blue/navy, khaki/tan, or black solid color bottoms (pants, knee length shorts, capris, skirts, jumpers or skorts) and white, navy, light blue, gray, yellow, or black solid colored tops (long or short sleeved polos or oxford shirts, turtlenecks, sweaters, vests, and cardigans). The Hannah Gibbons school shirt is also allowable. A belt is required to be worn with all bottoms with belt loops. Jogging pants, jeans/denim, leggings, collarless (T shirts) shirts, hoodies, headgear, bottoms with logos/stripes/insignias, flip-flops, slides (open heel and toe), are not authorized. Students arriving to school in unauthorized dress code item/s will need to change and/or a parent/guardian (or representative) will need to bring a change of clothing.

Hannah Gibbons is an air conditioned building. At times, the temperature inside the building can be much cooler that the temperature outside. Your child is welcome to wear a long sleeved shirt and/or bring a solid colored hoodless white, navy, light blue, black or gray sweater or fleece jacket (no outer wear). The rationale that “clean clothes were not available” or that a “student wore an unauthorized item before” will not be acceptable. All hoodies will need to be stored in students’ lockers and/or cubbies.  If you need assistance with obtaining a school uniform for your child, please contact Mrs. Kellum.

    Cell Phones

We will also adhere to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s Acceptable Use Policy for cell phones and other electronic devices. According to the policy, cell phones and other electronic devices are only to be used during the instructional day with permission from and under the supervision of a teacher or administrator for educational purposes and/or in the event of an emergency. There is no acceptable use in hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, etc.  except under the conditions outlined above. Cell phones are required to be powered completely off (not on silent or vibrate) and stored in a purse, book bag or locker. Students sending or receiving phone calls, emails, texts, and/or messages during the instructional day is not allowable. Students bringing a cell phone or electronic device to school do so at their own risk. CMSD is not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones. Violations of the CMSD Acceptable Use policy will result in your child’s phone being confiscated. Confiscated cell phones and/or electronic devices will need to be picked up by a parent/guardian or an adult representative. If you need to contact your child before the end of the school day, please call the Main Office at (216) 838-0750.

    Educationally,
