In his 2019 State of the Schools address, CEO Eric Gordon highlighted examples of the "joyful and adventurous" learning that he says goes on every day in classrooms across the District. The "ACAlympics" held Wednesday at Wade Park School provided another illustration.

Students in kindergarten through third grade at four schools -- Charles A. Mooney, Daniel E. Morgan, George Washington Carver and Wade Park -- competed in six fun-filled events aligned to the standards measured on state English Language Arts and math exams.

Knowledge was tested in using games like Kahoot!, HandsDown and Hedbanz and in activities like crafts and building towers using marshmallows and skewers. The winning school went home with a trophy and first-place individual finishers received medals.
