 College Credit Plus at Cleveland Early College High School

1. Parent/Student must complete the Intent To Participate Form by April 1st, 2023 online. This deadline is for the entire year (Summer 2023 - Spring 2024).

2. Research college options, requirements, and their specific deadlines.

3. Apply to the chosen college or university.

4. If admitted, students must first meet with the School Counselor, Ms. Maxwell to discuss the pathway to graduation and potential courses.

5. Next, students meet with a college advisor to register and finalize their College Credit Plus plans, plus meet all other college requirements.
6. Students are responsible for providing your high school counselor with a copy of your college schedule.

2. COUNSELING OF CCP STUDENTS:

CECHS will provide counseling to students and their parents who plan to enroll in the program.  Counseling information will include, but is not limited to:

• Program eligibility
• The process for granting academic credit.
• Scheduling at the high school.
• The effects of program participation on the student’s graduation requirements.
• The effects of participation on the student’s grade point average and athletic eligibility

C.  POTENTIAL BENEFITS:

• Expands the curriculum available to students.
• Provides opportunities for “in-depth” study of those areas of special interest or need.
• Allows students to earn college credit while in high school.
• Provides financial support for taking college courses for high school credit.
• Allows students to experience college-level work/life prior to making final decisions about postsecondary education plans.
• May serve as a pathway for meeting Competency (OST) and Readiness (Diploma Seals) graduation requirements.

 D.  POTENTIAL RISKS AND CONSEQUENCES:

• Increases responsibility for learning in an academically challenging environment.
• May reduce opportunities for participation in high school activities due to time constraints.
• May result in different calendar dates between college and high school.
• Mature Content

 E.  MATURE CONTENT:

Information about the potential for mature subject matter, as defined in section 3365.035 of the    Revised Code, in courses in which the student intends to enroll through the program and notification that courses will not be modified based upon program enrollee participation regardless of where course instruction occurs. The information shall include the permission slip described in division (B) of section 3365.035 of the Revised Code. Colleges will provide the permission slip with their application materials. 

 F.  PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY:

Students must be accepted by the college(s) (each institution will have its own admission criteria). 

 G.  PROCESS FOR GRANTING CREDIT:

College Credit Plus requires two fundamental conditions:

1. The student must be enrolled in both college and high school.
2. The student will earn transcripted college and high school credit upon successful completion of the course.
3. High school credit will be awarded toward both graduation and subject area requirements of the district.  All courses taken for high school credit will be counted in the student’s grade point average.

H.  FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS:

All financial responsibilities for college coursework outside of the College Credit Plus program will rest with the student/parent.  Students attending a public college during the year under the College Credit Plus program will not be charged for tuition, books, or fees.  Students attending a private college may be charged based on the particular private college and where the course is delivered, in accordance with the law.  Financial obligations default to the student/parent if the student fails the course, drops the course after the college-approved drop date, or fails to complete the course. 

I.  TRANSPORTATION:

No form of transportation is provided for CCP students unless they are in High Tech Academy.

J.  SCHEDULING:

No high school graduation requirement may be waived for any student as a result of participating in this program.  Scheduling conflicts are not the responsibility of the school district or college.  Courses at the high school and college level will NOT be overloaded to accommodate a student in the College Credit Plus Program.  College courses may be dropped due to low enrollment.

K.  CONSEQUENCES OF FAILING:

Failure will affect eligibility to participate in student activities (i.e., athletics if the failed college course was one of the 5 credits needed for eligibility).  Classes failed or withdrawn with an “F” will receive an “F” on the high school and college transcript and will be computed into the high school and college GPA.  Withdrawal from or failure of any CCP course does not ensure re-enrollment in a similar course at the high school.

L.  COURSES AVAILABLE THROUGH COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS:

Once a student is admitted to a college for College Credit Plus, he/she may take any level 1 course in the college’s course catalog that is NOT remedial or religious, Physical Education, music lessons, and that applies toward a degree or professional certificate at that particular institution and in a subject area in which you are determined college-ready by the college. 

M.  ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The student must be accepted by the college, meet all requirements and standards for college courses, meet attendance requirements, and provide means of transportation.

N.  OTHER STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that they are aware of all deadlines within the College Credit Plus Program in relation to scheduling at the college level and at the high school level.  There are no guarantees that courses will be available during any given semester.  Also, it is the student’s responsibility to make sure to keep abreast of all the deadlines that are to be followed at the home school for academic, social, and extracurricular events.  The student is responsible to check dates, timelines, and requirements, and to adhere to all the requirements in a timely manner both at the college and high school.
