How can we improve science exhibits at the Great Lakes Science Center?

About the project

9th Grade students will explore the exhibits at the Great Lakes Science Center, and propose ideas for changes based on their observations. Students will survey patrons, gaining an understanding of their exhibit expectations and science knowledge, and propose new exhibits to fill these needs.

About the Partnership

The Great Lakes Science Center has hosted the classrooms for MC2STEM's ninth graders for over a decade. Students attend their first year at mc2stem in the science center, with the ability to learn from GLSC professionals as part of their innovative high school experience.

Project Deliverables

Phase 1

Students will explore the Science Center exhibits, collecting data on the topics covered and aesthetics of each exhibit, and observe public use of the spaces by collecting notes on dwell time and use counts for each. Students will conduct interviews with GLSC guests about areas of strength and needs for improvement of the museum, and present their findings to GLSC.

Phase 2

Students will identify an exhibit that is in need of improvements and redesign it to better educate the public on the intended topic.

Phase 3

Students will create a brand new exhibit based on the data that they have collected, and test their design in the GLSC space by gathering feedback from GLSC guests. Exhibits should cover an identified science topic that is missing from GLSC spaces and of relevance to the Cleveland public
