Maria Montessori came from a science background. She earned degrees in medicine, anthropology, and psychology, and worked at a children’s hospital for developmentally challenged children. While working at the children’s hospital, she applied a scientific approach to observing these children and noticed their need for stimulation and activity. In response to her observations, she created new educational materials for these children, which led her to develop the Montessori Method.
