• SPRING BREAK: NO SCHOOL March 25-29, 2024

African American author, Tim Roberts, has written four books entitled, I know a Hero, each based on different career fields different jobs. He came to Tremont Montessori last week and read to our second and third graders from Ms. Potts and Mrs. Schinder's classes. The students enjoyed the reading and asked Mr. Roberts a lot of questions. He also read to our middle school MD/AU classes, and they also enjoyed learning about different careers and jobs. Mr. Roberts told us that some of the proceeds off the book go to "Autism Speak", because he has a sister who is autistic. Mr. Roberts received his bachelor's in political science from Lake Erie College and is now in law school in Chicago. This was a great opportunity for our students to learn about different careers and hear that they can be a Hero too by following a career that interests them.

Our halls were also graced ASAS cast dressed as characters from the Cat in the Hat. Together they performed a dramatic reading of the book to students from 240 and 241!

Tremont families, as we approach testing season, it is important to help your child prepare at home. Things like ensuring they are getting adequate rest, utilize resources at your local libraries, math practice sites, and reading time every night for at least 30 minutes can be very helpful. The Ohio State Testing Portal also has a Student and Families section with information about the test, testing calendar, a practice test portal, and other resources.

Middle School students researched, collected, and analyzed data about topics like: what is the most popular social media site, student loan debt, and safety in schools. They presented their findings to our school community.

Children's House para-professional Seena Shanoof receives the CMSD Heart Award for outstanding service. CMSD staff came to Tremont Montessori School to present Mrs. Shanoof with the award.

Read Across America Week is celebrated from March 2-6, kicking off with the birthday of beloved author, Dr. Seuss. You can simply just read, check out your local library for events, or take the Read Across America challenge.

Middle School girls participated in a special Valentine's Day Tea. The young ladies heard from Dr. Brown, who spoke words of encouragement at the tea.

Classrooms decorated their doors to celebrate and honor the contributions of African Americans to the arts for Black History Month.

The Middle School will be presenting, "A Demonstration of Learning Through Inquiry". Middle School students selected a topic of interests that also impacts our local and global community. They had to research, and create a presentation on their topics. Middle School Parents are invited to come and watch the presentations on March 14, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. The Middle School will also be serving pie and coffee at their demonstration to also celebrate National PI Day. Look out for an invitation to this event from your child's teacher through the Remind app. If you have not signed up for Remind, instructions are attached at the end of this newsletter.

This month's Parent Meeting for grades (K-8) focused on Empathy and Internet Safety. Our Upper Elementary teachers created a presentation that has been shared on You Tube. The meeting was on Thursday, January 25th from 4:00-6:00 PM.

Middle School students are working on writing argumentative essays on the advantages and disadvantages to AI. They are also exploring how graphs are visual representations of information, how they help readers understand data collected during an experiment, and how scientists use graphs like line graphs, bar graphs, and pie charts. Middle Schools students will also be learning about how genetics is the study of heredity, or characteristics passed from one generation to the next. Students are also learning how to follow a recipe, shop at a supermarket, and the different food groups that make up the human diet.

In Lower Elementary students are finishing up a deep dive into all things Australia! They learned about the foods, animals, transportation, people and culture. In Math they are beginning a focus on Notation of Time with different History lessons and works. Lower Elementary have also begun a 20 book challenge!

Tremont's Boy's Basketball team went all the way to finals. They started off with only five players and still made it to finals. Let's celebrate their hard work and perseverance.

In preparation for the Ohio's District Qualifiers next Saturday, January 13th, the robotics team, One More Second, practiced their presentation with visitors at Great Lakes Science Center. The team also is this week's "Shout Out" school in CMSD 360 (starting around minute 2:45). They have also been asked to present to the local and state officials at CSU on January 16th. Please be sure to wish Ms. Kovach, Ms. Marti and the whole robotics team great adventures and success these next two weeks!

• Attendance Matters: Please get your students to school on time and allow them to stay for the full day. The state counts hours and not days. When your student leaves early or arrives late that time is counted and it accumulates. When they are not in school they are not learning.
• Mayor Justin Bibb wants you to know that the City of Cleveland’s Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Centers (NRRC’s) provide resources in the neighborhood for recreational, social, cultural, and other support services. A list of programs and services are available to members of the entire family across the city’s 22 Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Centers. This month's Parent Meeting for grades (K-8) will focus on Empathy and Social Media Safety. Our Upper Elementary teachers will be presenting and parents from all grades are welcome to come. The meeting will be on Thursday, January 25th from 4:00-6:00 PM. Dinner will be provided.

Children's House (Pre-K) will be hosting Coffee Hour for parents on Wednesday, January 17, 2023 at 9:30 AM. Samantha Bellman will be presenting on phonemic Awareness.

On Thursday, November 16th at Tremont Montessori School parents grabbed some food and discussed Family Engagement and Family Literacy. We read and discussed the article Family Engagement and Family Literacy: A Duo for a Strong School Foundation. Families discussed the following questions:

1. What is the foundation for a child's academic success?
2. What does quality time look like in your home?
3. How do infants and young children learn language and vocabulary?
4. What items do you already have around the house that can support your child's literacy development?

In preparation for the Ohio's District Qualifiers next Saturday, January 13th, the robotics team, One More Second, practiced their presentation with visitors at Great Lakes Science Center. The team also is this week's "Shout Out" school in CMSD 360 (starting around minute 2:45). They have also been asked to present to the local and state officials at CSU on January 16th. Please be sure to wish Ms. Kovach, Ms. Marti and the whole robotics team great adventures and success these next two weeks!

The Boy's Basketball team beat Wade Park and Robert G. Jones this week. They were down the first two quarters of the game and then made a mighty comeback. The team demonstrated resilience and good sportsmanship. The Basketball Team is 4-3.

Tremont Montessori School was spotlighted at the January Board Work Meeting where Principal Celeste presented. You can view a copy of her presentation below.

Middle School students are working on writing argumentative essays on the advantages and disadvantages to AI. They are also exploring how graphs are visual representations of information, how they help readers understand data collected during an experiment, and how scientists use graphs like line graphs, bar graphs, and pie charts. Middle Schools students will also be learning about how genetics is the study of heredity, or characteristics passed from one generation to the next. Students are also learning how to follow a recipe, shop at a supermarket, and the different food groups that make up the human diet.

In Lower Elementary students are finishing up a deep dive into all things Australia! They learned about the foods, animals, transportation, people and culture. In Math they are beginning a focus on Notation of Time with different History lessons and works. Lower Elementary have also begun a 20 book challenge!

1. Recognize developing brains may be especially vulnerable to specific social media features.

2. Monitor and discuss your child’s social media use.

3. Model healthy social media use.

4. Watch for problematic social media use.

Whether it was playing with pumpkins and friends at Red Wagon Farm, checking out the elephant crossing at the zoo, taking their first polar plunge at Edgewater, or plunging into Robotics league at Willoughby School of Innovation for a scrimmage with 16 other schools, our students and staff had plenty of adventures this week!

Arrival:

Pre-K: Parent/guardian park on W. 10th St. and escort child to side door near cafeteria – Preschool students need to be escorted and signed in by an adult each morning.

Kindergarten – 8th Grade: Enter through main entrance on Jefferson Ave. – they do not need to be signed in.

Dismissal:

Pre- K: Students need to picked up and signed out by adult each afternoon (only those18 years old and over). Dismissal will be at marked door:

Kindergarten – 8th Grade : will exit from the main entrance on Jefferson and walk to car independently – no sign out required. All students and adults must use the cross walk at the corner if they need to cross the street.
