Shoes and Clothes for Kids has rewarded CMSD’s Ohio Teacher of the Year finalist with a 3-minute shopping spree at the organization’s Resource Center.
Catherine Duplisea gathered 364 items -- $2,500 worth of supplies -- for her school, Orchard STEM. The haul included backpacks, glue sticks, pencils, notebooks and more.
CMSD-TV was there to capture all of the fun on Facebook Live. See the video below.
Duplisea was one of four finalists for 2019 Ohio Teacher of the Year. The Ohio Department of Education announced Toledo teacher Mona Al-Hayani as the winner last week.
A former kindergarten teacher, Duplisea is now her school's STEM lead model teacher, helping to plan and facilitate STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) lessons with a focus on technology integration using iPads. In 2016, Apple supplied an iPad for every Orchard student as part of the White House's ConnectEd initiative.
Last year, Duplisea was one of 10 winners in the second annual Excellence in Teaching Award program, a partnership between the George Gund and Cleveland foundations, the school district and the Cleveland Teachers Union.
