    Program helps teen refugees adjust

    3/19/2019 -- Every Tuesday and Thursday, 26 students remain after classes at the John Marshall high school campus for two hours -- by choice. They hunker down over mobile devices or pencil and paper, listen intently to their instructor or guest speakers and freely join in discussions. These teenagers, all refugees, are newcomers to America. And they are eager to learn how to make their way.

    Max Hayes student named Youth of the Year

    3/15/2019 -- Frank, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland’s new Youth of the Year, said he instantly became the “man of the house” after his mom died when he was 14. His days have included rising at 5 a.m. to get younger siblings ready for school and then taking two buses and a rail line to Max Hayes.

    PRE4CLE celebrates fifth anniversary

    3/11/2019 -- PRE4CLE, a network made up of CMSD and private providers, is celebrating five years of expanding access to high-quality preschool in Cleveland. Mayor Frank G. Jackson, District Chief Executive Officer Eric Gordon and other leaders announced formation of the network on March 11, 2014. They said a good start is critical to helping children succeed in school.

    Parker Hannifin helps Say Yes recipients at CSU

    3/7/2019 -- A $5 million gift from the Parker Hannifin Foundation will provide free campus housing at Cleveland State University during students’ freshman and sophomore years, along with mentoring and other assistance that prepares them for careers. The program will aid 40 incoming freshmen per year through 2026.
