• Riverside School will be collecting all cell phones that scholars bring to school. Please find our building-specific policy below:

    • Every Yondr pouch will be numbered.

    • Scholars will be assigned a number and a corresponding Yondr pouch.

    • Upon arrival, scholars will go through metal detectors and have their bags checked.

    • Scholars without phones who arrive between 9:15AM to 9:35AM will travel to the cafeteria (for breakfast), class (K and 1st), or gym (2nd-8th) to wait for school to begin.

    • Scholars with a phone will walk to the cell phone station. The cell phone station will be on the first floor by the elevator.

    • Once at the cell phone station scholars will be asked to show an educator that their phone is powered down.

    • Next, the educator will hand the scholar their Yondr pouch.

    • The scholar will place their phone (and any additional electronics – i.e. AirPods or Apple watch) in their Yondr pouch.

    • Once the scholar’s phone and/or additional electronics are in their pouch an educator will collect it and place it in Riverside’s secure cell phone cabinet.

    • Scholars who attend Period 0 will turn in cell phones after Period 0, following the protocol listed above.

    • Scholars who arrive late will follow the cell phone collection policy listed above in the front office (instead of the hallway) and then they will receive a tardy pass.

    • If a scholar needs to use their phone during the day, they will get a pass from the teacher and go to the office. Phone usage during the day will be at the discretion of the building administrators.

    • At the end of the day, scholars who brought a phone to school that ride a bus will come down when their bus number is called. They will get in the bus riders’ line at the cell phone station, get their pouch, take their phone, turn in their pouch, and then go directly to their bus.

    • At the end of the day, scholars who brought a phone that ride in a car will come down when the educator running the car line calls their name. They will stop by the car riders’ line at the cell phone station, get their pouch, take their phone, turn in their pouch, and then go to their vehicle.

    • At the end of the day, scholars who brought a phone that walk home (or to meet their family in the neighborhood) will come down when the walkers are dismissed. They will stop by the walkers’ line at the cell phone station, get their pouch, take their phone, turn in their pouch, and then exit the building to walk home.

    • At the end of the day, scholars who are participating in sports or staying after for any other reason will come down when walkers are called and stop by the walkers’ line at the cell phone station, get their pouch, take their phone, turn in the pouch and go to the gym or other activity location within the building.

    • Scholars who violate the cell phone policy will be subject to consequences that follow the CMSD Code of Conduct.

    • Phone usage on field trips will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

    • Scholars with medical needs (i.e. diabetic scholars) may be exempt from the cell phone policy. Scholars who are exempt are still expected to only use their phones for medical monitoring.
