    SC4K will provide uniforms, supplies to students at 5 schools

    5/20/2019 -- With help from the school-wear company French Toast, SC4K will furnish uniforms and other clothing and school supplies for all students in kindergarten through third grade at the five schools, as well as supplies that teachers often buy for the children. The nonprofit will replenish the goods monthly.

  • Cafeteria walls to display fruits of art students' labor

    5/23/2019 -- Tired of big, blank walls in CMSD cafeterias, Chris Burkhardt, executive director of school nutrition, recently commissioned paintings that Cleveland School of Arts students made of fruits and vegetables. The first 80 works, enough for 10 of the District’s 100 schools, are ready for display.

    5/21/2019 -- On Fridays, Kristen Lasley’s class turns into “Lasley’s Diner,” where students with special needs prepare and deliver custom lunches ordered by faculty and staff. Lasley, an intervention specialist, and colleagues teach life skills to sixth- through eighth-graders who learn how to set a menu, package the food, handle money and much more.

    Cavs, Goodyear unveil STEM lab (Photo gallery)

    5/20/2019 -- The Cleveland Cavaliers and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. have built a new STEM lab where CMSD teachers will train to incorporate digital fabrication in instruction. The space, located at the East Professional Center, was a chemistry lab when the building, now used for professional development, was known as East High School.

    Safety Day set for June 1

    5/20/2019 -- Safety Day will feature free lead screening for children by the Cleveland Department of Public Health and safety-related exhibits by the Cleveland Department of Public Safety and other agencies and organizations. The event also will include monster trucks, an antique car show, raffles and food.

    John Marshall IT picked for STEM network

    5/20/2019 -- John Marshall IT was one of 14 schools recently admitted to the Ohio STEM Learning Network. The designation formally comes from the Ohio STEM Committee, made up of the state superintendent of public instruction, the chancellor of the Department of Higher Education, the director of development and four members of the piublic.

    Early College wins Mock Trial competition (Photo gallery)

    5/20/2019 -- Each year, student teams take the roles of defense attorneys and prosecutors and argue cases before judges in Cleveland Municipal Court. Students also act as witnesses and bailiffs, and participants write essays on their cases.

    CSA senior wins Dazzle award

    5/20/2019 -- Jenai Mosely, a graduating senior at the Cleveland School of the Arts, won a Dazzle Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Andy Lee in this year's All-City Musical, "42nd Street." The musical was nominated for seven Dazzle Awards, a regional high school theater competition.

    5/17/2019 -- CMSD is entering another graduation season, but this season is unlike those that went before it. The Class of 2019 is the first whose graduates can qualify for Say Yes to Education scholarships, which cover gaps in tuition after deducting federal and state aid.
