UPDATE: Through a series of regional meetings in April, we engaged with more than 500 members of our community around the Citywide Analysis and gathered over 300 feedback forms in which those attendees shared their insights, ideas, and questions as they relate to the Analysis.

K-8 Takeaways
  • 22% of enrollment is in C-rated schools, though there are no A or B-rated schools in the region. 78% of enrollment is in schools rated D or F, the second highest rate of any region in the city.
  • Mount Pleasant and Union-Miles do not have any A, B or C-rated schools located in those respective neighborhoods.
High School Takeaways
  • 24% of high school residents attending a District or charter school attend an A, B or C-rated school.
  • This rate is the lowest of the three east side regions, though still double any west side region.

  • District K-8 enrollment declined 8.6% from 2013 to 2017, while charter schools gained 120 students.
  • Combined K-8 enrollment is forecast to decline 240 students, or 3%, by 2022-23.
  • 52% of K-8 students residing in the region attend District schools over other options, among the lowest rates of any region.
  • Of students attending District schools, 77% stay in the region, which is among the highest rates of any region.
High School Takeaways
  • High school enrollment is forecast to grow 1.4% by 2022-23.
  • 57% of residents attend a District high school over other options.

K-8 Takeaways
  • 72% of District K-8 seats are utilized, leaving approximately 1,300 empty District seats in the region and roughly 1,000 empty charter seats.
  • With the opening of new K-8 buildings in the region this year, 95% of students attending District K-8 schools are served in buildings that are newly built since 2002. Only one of the District K-8 buildings in this region pre-date 2002.
  • The eleven new buildings in operation in this region have enough capacity to serve all students forecast to attend District schools in this region with additional open seats remaining.
High School Takeaways
  • 48% of District high schools seats are utilized, among the lowest rates of any region. Current building use suggests 1,600 empty District seats in the region.
  • 48% of students attending District high schools are served in buildings that are newly built or renovated since 2002.

  • 62% of District K-8 schools are above the minimum enrollment target of 360 students, but only 3 of 13 regional schools meet the desired enrollment target of 450 students.
  • 54% of District K-8 schools in the region have experienced a negative enrollment trend over the last five years.
High School Takeaways
  • Only one of the seven District high schools in the region is above the minimum enrollment target of 400 students, though it is not above the desired target of 500 students.
