Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to the 2021-22 school year and Room A202 Simmons College! My name is Sarah Peterson, this is my third year at WGLA, and I will be teaching 7th and 8th-grade science. I am so excited to have the opportunity to spend a more “normal” year with students in 7th grade, and I’m also looking forward to working with the 8th graders as they complete their final year at WGLA. My goal in science this year is to ensure students have many hands-on learning experiences, and that they are given the opportunity to explore how the science concepts we are learning about apply to their everyday lives.
Class Dojo Messenger is the best way to contact all 7th/8th-grade teachers and to keep up with Middle School updates, important dates, activities we are doing in class, and school-wide events.
Here are the science topics we will explore this year:
● Properties of matter ● Energy transfers and transformations ● The water cycle, ocean currents, and Earth’s atmosphere ● Weather and climate ● The Earth-Moon-Sun system ● Earth’s biomes and ecosystems
● Forces and motion ● Earth’s interior, tectonic plates, and geologic processes ● Erosion, deposition and geologic change over time ● Evolution ● Reproduction and heredity
Here is what will be included in Science Class:
1) Daily bell work
2) Science notebook for class notes (input) and writing about learning (output)
3) Weekly vocabulary
4) Weekly hands-on lab
