Vol. 16: Final State Budget Comments
The finalized version of the state budget was signed by Governor Kasich on July 1st, as required by law. The final version was created by the conference committee then sent to the Governor, who made his own final edits before signing it. Below are the main priorities for Cleveland Metropolitan School District and their current status in the budget. For more information on our budget priorities, see this previous policy newsletter as well as the links within the chart.

*RESA was originally eliminated from the state budget, a measure that Governor Kasich line-vetoed before signing, keeping RESA in the budget for the next two years. However, the House and Senate are planning to attempt an override of the veto, eliminating RESA. It is imperative that you call Ohio Speaker of the House, Cliff Rosenberger and Ohio Senate President Larry Obhof and tell them to oppose an override veto of the Governor's executive bill. You can reach Speaker Rosenberger at 614-466-3506 and Senate President Obhof at 614-466-7505.
All of our priorities were met within the scope of what we wanted for CMSD and for the advancement of the Cleveland Plan, ensuring that every neighborhood has a number of quality schools for families to choose from.
