The Department of Safety and Security, in partnership with our students, employees, and the community, strives to provide a safe and orderly environment for learning.

Our students and staff's safety and security are among CMSD's highest priorities. We work closely with the Cleveland Division of Police and other local authorities to implement safety procedures and improve mutual aid.

In addition to collaborating with other agencies, we:

• Seek to staff every building with at least one security guard and a metal detector.
• Employ mobile deputies and sworn police officers who patrol the District, respond to emergencies, and supplement building security staff. CMSD is the only school district in Ohio that employs sworn police officers.
• Are upgrading surveillance cameras and public-address systems.
• Have connected CMSD surveillance cameras with the City of Cleveland's camera system to expand coverage.
• Provide Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy certification.
• Supply photo IDs to students. The IDs double as Cleveland Public Library cards and permit parents who download the Edulog Parent Portal app to monitor their children's travel on yellow buses.
