Virtual Academy
The Virtual Academy is a full time online virtual school that is ideal for working parents and all students who wish to have more control over their learning pace. Students have a target date for completion of the course but also have 24/7 access to the instruction to provide the flexibility many families need. In this learning model, students have the ability to work on assignments by accessing recorded direct instruction, text passages, activities, web-based class sessions, email, chat messages, and phone calls. This option is available for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. Enrollment requires a semester-long or year-long commitment, as well as an adult who can partner with the district to ensure student support. Students enrolled in the Virtual Academy remain CMSD students and continue to have access to all offered sports, extra-curricular activities, a school counselor, and the SEL supports offered to all CMSD students and families.
The Virtual Academy provides accredited courses, access to academic advisement and college through SAY YES. Students completing high school coursework through the Virtual Academy will earn a CMSD diploma from their home school, that is accepted by colleges, universities and other post-secondary programs. Students will be required to have daily check-ins with a CMSD instructor to monitor progress, check for misunderstandings, and intervention.
How do I enroll?
Beginning on Monday, July 27th, families who wish to choose the Virtual Academy may do so by logging into the School Choice Portal at www.choosecmsd.org and selecting Virtual Academy as your only choice. There you may select the Virtual Academy, request IEP support, access all forms required, and provide information concerning technology availability.
