The eighth and final segment of CMSD’s construction program will include three new buildings and major renovation of a fourth school.

The District will renovate Joseph M. Gallagher PreK-8 School and build replacements for Clark PreK-8 School, Marion C. Seltzer PreK-8 School and the Lincoln-West high school campus. All the construction projects will take place on the current sites.

Community meetings will be held, starting Thursday, so the public can meet the architects and provide input on traffic flow and exterior design. The meeting schedule is as follows:

  • Joseph M. Gallagher School renovation -- 6 p.m. Thursday, March 10 at Joseph M. Gallagher School, 6601 Franklin Blvd.
  • Clark School construction -- 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 12 at Lincoln-West, 3202 W. 30th
  • Lincoln-West Campus construction -- 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12 at Lincoln-West, 3202 W. 30th
  • Marion C. Seltzer School construction -- 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 15 at Marion C. Seltzer, 1468 W. 98th

The Gallagher, Seltzer and Clark projects will begin this year and are expected to be completed by 2024. The Lincoln-West construction will begin in 2024 and is expected to take two years.

Gallagher students will move to the old Garrett Morgan High School building on Woodbine Ave. during the renovation. Lincoln-West students will move to the old Garrett Morgan when construction of their new campus begins in 2024.

Clark students will move to the former H. Barbara Booker School while their new school is under construction. Seltzer students will remain in place while their school is built on another part of the property.

The projects are part of a modernization program that began after the roof at the former East High School, now East Professional Center, collapsed in 2000.

Since the program began, the District has built or substantially renovated 51 buildings.

The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission has paid two-thirds of eligible expenses, and bond issues approved by District voters have paid the rest. Costs for Segment 8, including demolition of older buildings, are estimated at more than $128 million.
