April 27 - Initial Re-Opening
April 27, 2020
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This afternoon, Governor Mike DeWine announced the first steps in his plan to reopen Ohio, beginning Friday, May 1st. Today’s announcement largely focused on resuming work in the areas of health care, manufacturing and general offices while the State prepares to begin restoring retail services as well.
As we expected, the Governor advised no easing of restrictions for schools, students or teachers. That means CMSD, and schools across the state, will continue to engage in our remote learning opportunities for the balance of our school year.
Even though we are not able to resume more traditional education services at this time, the Governor’s guidance will enable us to begin restoring some core functions our community has been waiting on. These include things like printing and mailing 3rd quarter report cards and planning for social distancing proms and graduations for our students, while we wait for a time when we can have our more traditional walks across the stage.
This will also enable us to prepare for the limited opening of family and employee-facing services.
I want to make clear that anything we do to begin reopening core services of the District will be done with the health and safety of our employees and our community members in mind. CMSD is committed to continuing to support our students, families and communities remotely. For student-related needs, parents and caregivers are encouraged to call your child’s school directly. For other needs, or if you are unsure of whom you should contact, call 838-0000 for support in English or 838-0001 for support in Spanish. We're in this together, and we will do everything we can to meet your needs.
As a reminder, while slightly modified, the Governor’s Stay At Home Order remains in place. Please continue to stress the importance of good hygiene with your children, and please remind them that it remains important to use face coverings when out of your home and to limit any gatherings to fewer than 10 total people, keeping 6 feet apart wherever possible.
Thank you for your continued engagement with your child’s teachers and school and for staying connected during this challenging time for all Ohio schools and families. Please continue to stay safe, healthy and well.
