11-17-2021 COVID Update

November 17th, 2021

Dear Students, Families and Staff:

We all know this has been a challenging school year. The return to learning in person five days a week, after a year in remote classes, was necessary if our students were to get back on track. But the threat of the pandemic persists, and, as a result, anxiety levels are understandably high.

In the face of this enormous challenge, our students, families and educators have persevered and helped us embark on a bold new vision of learning. Hands-on, student-led learning is transforming education in Cleveland, as are expanded arts, music and extracurricular activities, after-school programming, our new PACE planning and career exploration initiative and other pieces of what we now call The CMSD Experience.

That work is just starting, and we need stay on course, even though COVID-19 cases are rising again in Northeast Ohio and across the state. The trend could worsen as people gather inside for holiday gatherings, increasing the chances of exposure.

To help CMSD do its part, I am again extending our requirement that all students, staff and visitors wear masks in school buildings. The mask requirement will remain in effect through the start of the new year. We will reassess the policy after winter break.

We also will continue to follow our many existing safety protocols, including social distancing, frequent sanitizing and disinfecting classrooms with mist each night. A full list of our safeguards may be found at ClevelandMetroSchools.org/CovidSafety.

The sacrifices that all of you make  -- students, families and educators – do not go unnoticed. Your cooperation and support are critical to our academic success. I am grateful for all you do.

Sincerely,

Eric Gordon
