Parents and Students
Section 504 Procedural Manual Revised: Parents, please take note of certain revisions that have been made to the Administrative Guidelines portion of the CMSD Section 504 Procedural Manual appearing on the District’s website. These revisions provide clarification that, when evaluating a student under Section 504, the student’s Section 504 team is to consider all appropriate assessments and that Section 504 prohibits the District from categorically excluding any particular type of assessment from consideration.
Ohio House Bill 8 - Parents' Bill of Rights
The Cleveland Metropolitan School District fully complies with the Parents' Bill of Rights and all components of House Bill 8. The Parents' Bill of Rights requires all Ohio public school districts to have a written concerns process for parents/guardians to complete if they have concerns about any of the provisions in HB 8. Parents/guardians may share an initial concern in writing with their building principal or assistant principal about any matter addressed in this policy. If the concern is not resolved by the building principal or assistant principal, then parents should complete the “Parents’ Bill of Rights Submission of Written Concern Form” found here. Additional information about House Bill 8 and CMSD's Parental Involvement Board Policy (IGBLA) can be found on our district website here.
In compliance with House Bill 8 (Parents' Bill of Rights), at the beginning of the school year, the School District is required to notify parents of: each health care service offered at, or facilitated in cooperation with, their student's school and their option to withhold consent or decline any specified services. This letter provides parents with an overview of all health services offered in CMSD (these may not all be offered at your school) and provides the opportunity for parents to opt their students out of these services.
Food Allergy Guidelines Posted: Parents are also asked to take note that the CMSD Food Allergy Guidelines have been posted on the District’s website.
