Our Commitment to Digital Equity and Digital Literacy

Empower CMSD is our district-wide program that focuses on the digital aspect of equity and inclusion for our students and families.

The program leverages several partnership opportunities in both the public and private sectors. By actively soliciting and receiving the support of residential internet providers, engaging with social and policy advocates and identifying interested financial supporters, we continuously demonstrate our commitment to taking all necessary steps to close the digital divide.

    Students working on a computer
Through the empowerCMSD program, The District provides a device for every student, connections for every family that needs internet access and tech support. Schools request devices for the students and families. Families can also call the service desk number (216.838.0440) for any questions or issues related to the student devices. PCs for People provides our graduating seniors with a device at commencement.

    Broadband Internet Access
    Broadband access
We have partnered with Digital C and Spectrum to provide subsidized internet at no cost to our CMSD families through the "Stay Connected" program. These providers will determine if a student's house meets their pre-wired qualifications to receive services. If families are not qualified for the service, families have access to the Affordable Connectivity Program which helps low-income households pay for internet.

The District recently partnered with Microsoft Corporation, a partnership which provides a free download of its Office 365 ProPlus software suite (e.g., Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.). Current students and staff are able to download the Microsoft products through their account homepage at no cost, as long as they are affiliated with the District.

    Other Technology
Other tech benefits and services available to CMSD students and families include interactive Clevertouch screens in every classroom and ID badges that let parents monitor their children's travel on district school buses. The ID's double as Cleveland Public Library cards.

IT Connect is a portal that simplifies the way CMSD educators request services from, and report issues to the Division of Information Technology.

If you are experiencing any technology related issues, we are here to help. Before you report an issue, we recommend checking the 1:1 Program services and Device Care Guidelines sections below. You can also contact the service desk at 216.838.0440 for assistance.
