Browns Player visits William Cullen Bryant for School Breakfast
(2017, March 9) Cleveland Browns Player, Joel Bitonio visited William Cullen Bryant for school breakfast during the National School Breakfast Week. Bitonio enjoyed a school breakfast with students in the cafeteria and guzzled down three cartons of milk that morning. “Breakfast helps fuel my body and prepares me for the day’s challenges,” says Bitonio. The 6’ 4’ 315 lbs NFL player also visited the kindergartens of the school while they ate breakfast in the classroom. Studies show that serving school breakfast in the classroom is the best solution to increase school breakfast participation.
Bitonio then saw the 2nd-grade class where the students participated in math bell work exercises. While solving math problems, the students performed exercises such as jumping jacks and toe touches alongside Bitonio and Chomps, the official mascot to the Cleveland Browns. Incorporating physical activity into the subjects such has math and reading is an excellent way to energize students minds and keep them focus on their studies.
Two other classroom visits were on the agenda that morning as well. Bitonio and Chomps signed a breakfast pledge banner with the 4th-grade class and then travel to the school's new wing to see the middle school group and talk more about breakfast. Before Bitonio left the building, Bitonio read the morning announcements which included a closing reminder for the students to eat breakfast every day to be the best they can be!
