START STRONG WITH ATTENDANCE!
-
Chronic Absence
What is Chronic Absence? Missing 10% or more of school days in a year, which in Ohio is about 18 days or more.
Why It Matters: By sixth grade, chronic absence increases the risk of dropping out of high school. In ninth grade, consistent attendance is a better predictor of graduation than test scores.
-
Impact of Missing School
Signs of Struggles: Chronic absence might indicate issues like a lack of interest in school, academic struggles, bullying, or other challenges.
Classroom Disruption: Frequent absences can slow down the entire class as teachers need to spend extra time helping absent students catch up.
-
The Power of Daily Attendance
Life Skills: Regular attendance builds habits that lead to college graduation and future job success.
-
Academic Performance
Students who miss 10+ days in a school year often score lower on state tests and risk falling behind academically.
-
Take the Pledge!
Fight Absenteeism Together: Join us in committing to daily attendance by taking the pledge to start strong and to finish strong!

ENGAGE OFTEN WITH YOUR CHILD’S SCHOOL!
-
Communication is Important
It's super important to talk to your child's teacher as soon as you can. Say hi, get to know them, and let them know you're interested in your child's education. It's also great to keep chatting with them throughout the school year.
Tell the teacher all about your child. You know your kid best! If your child has special needs, make sure to tell the teacher at the start of the year. And if you notice a big change in how your child is acting or doing in school, get in touch with the teacher right away.
-
Stay in the Know
Parent-teacher meetings and report cards are helpful, but it's also good to know how things are going in between.
Make sure you know the best way to talk to your child's teachers — whether it's through email, phone calls, or text messages.
