National School Lunch Week 2020
National School Lunch Week
October 12–16
Written by dietetic intern: Greg Fesz
CMSD students can enjoy breakfast and lunch at no cost in part thanks to the National School Lunch Act passed in 1946. Later, President John F. Kennedy declared the second week in October National School Lunch Week. During National School Lunch Week, we celebrate nutrition education, food access, food diversity, health, and of course, our students and staff. Out of care for our students, our staff has worked tirelessly to give families access to meals during the pandemic.
We hope to nourish our students in all aspects of life. Adequate nutrition and exercise help children in the short and long term. An accumulation of evidence by the CDC affirms that adequate food and nutrition intake and physical activity are associated with increased focus, better grades, and improved classroom behavior.
This year, National School Lunch Week will feature giveaways of over 200 prizes, as well as the debut of Nashville Hot Nuggets on our menu. All CMSD families that pick-up meals during the second week of October are eligible to win a prize. In a year of constant adjustments, CMSD is proud to deliver this celebration and to continue to serve the community.
