Policy
Each child who is five years of age on or before September 30 is eligible to enroll in kindergarten. Each child who is six years of age on or before September 30 and who has successfully completed kindergarten shall be eligible to enroll in the first grade.
The District may waive the policy requiring successful completion of kindergarten upon parental request to the District .
Early Kindergarten Admission
When a request for early entrance to kindergarten is received, the District reaches out to the parent to arrange for the testing. The child’s fifth birthday must fall between October 1 and December 31 of the entering school year. The following considerations support the District’s decision:
- The child’s mental age should be between 14 and 16 months above their chronological age (October - 14 months; November - 15 months; December - 16 months) as determined by standardized tests.
- The child’s total I.Q. should be at least 127 on a deviation scale as determined by standardized testing.
- The child’s social and emotional characteristics should match other kindergarteners.
- The school psychologist and building principal should recommend admission.
