Policy
District residents who are at least age five but under age 22 and do not possess a diploma are entitled to free education in the District’s schools. Students who do not legally qualify as residents may enroll per the District’s Intradistrict Open Enrollment policy.
A student is a resident of the District if they reside with a parent or guardian whose residence is within the boundaries of the District. Children between five and 21 in the legal or permanent custody of a person or governmental agency other than their natural or adoptive parents are entitled to admission to the District’s schools if they reside in the District.
All parents or guardians enrolling a new student must present their identification, a copy of the child’s birth certificate or another document as evidence of birth, a certified copy of any child custody order or decree, proof of residency, written evidence of having received or being in the process of acquiring required immunizations, and records provided to them by their child’s most recent school. Students experiencing homelessness are entitled to admission regardless of their ability to provide documents at enrollment. More information is available in Policy JECAA.
