JHH: Notification About Sex Offenders
Policy
State law requires certain sex offenders to register with their county sheriff. In some circumstances, the sheriff notifies the Chief Executive Officer or their designee that a sex offender is residing, employed, or attending school within the District.
If the Chief Executive Officer or their designee receives information from the sheriff concerning a sex offender they share the information regarding the sex offender with the principal of the school closest to where the offender resides, works, or attends school. Employees who receive the information must promptly notify the Chief Executive Officer or their designee if they observe the sex offender in the vicinity of the school. In addition, the Chief Executive Officer or their designee notifies the local law enforcement agency if they believe the presence of the sex offender appears to be without a legitimate purpose or otherwise creates concern for the safety of the students.
If the Chief Executive Officer or their designee receives notification from the sheriff concerning a sex offender, they may inform parents, guardians, and adult students that they received notice that a sex offender is residing, employed, or attending school within the District and that certain information concerning the offender is public record and is open to inspection at the office of the sheriff with whom the offender has registered.
They must not release any other information but may direct any related inquiries to the sheriff's office.
