Policy
The Board affirms the right of a pregnant student to continue their participation in the educational program.
When the pregnancy is medically confirmed, the student should consult with their school counselor, principal or another administrative staff member to plan their educational program.
With the staff member involved, the student may elect any of the following educational plans or suggest alternatives:
- They may remain in their current school program with modifications as necessary until the baby's birth is imminent or until their physician states that continued participation would be detrimental to their health or the baby's.
- If a physician states that the student cannot attend school, home-bound instruction is available until their physician states that they are physically able to return to school.
- With District approval, they may temporarily withdraw from school and enroll in an approved educational program in which they can continue their education. For example, the student may attend the District's remote school.
The school makes efforts to ensure as little disruption as possible to the student's educational program and that they receive health and counseling services and instruction. Students under the age of 18 are still subject to compulsory education requirements. Students 18 or older are encouraged to return to school after delivery and complete the requirements for graduation.
