• IGDK: Interscholastic Extracurricular Eligibility

    Policy

The Board defines interscholastic extracurricular activities as District or school-sponsored student activities involving more than one school or school district.

The District permits students in grades 6 through 12 to participate in interscholastic extracurricular activities under the following eligibility requirements:

    • The student has a grade point average of 1.0 or higher in the previous grading period or a cumulative grade point average of 1.0 or higher.
    • The student enrolls in at least five one-credit courses that count toward graduation during the current grading period.
    • The 9-12 grade student passed at least five one-credit courses that count toward graduation in the last grading period, and the 6-8 grade student passed at least four courses in the previous grading period.

Any student who has received a failing grade for any class in the previous grading period will be allowed to participate in any interscholastic extracurricular activity if the student has met all other eligibility requirements.

The District determines the eligibility of students enrolling in the seventh or ninth grades for the first time when such students do not have a formal GPA calculation at the time of enrollment.

Principals shall ensure that study tables and tutoring are available to all athletes and other students involved in extracurricular activities.

A student is ineligible for the subsequent grading period if they fail to comply with eligibility requirements.

A student with an individualized education plan or 504 plan may be exempt from the grading provisions outlined in this policy if such an exemption is advisable according to the individualized education plan.
