• IICA: Field Trips

    Policy

All field trips sponsored by the schools must be educational and directly related to the subject matter and the course objectives of instruction at the particular grade level. Schools should determine field trip objectives in advance, and appropriate instruction should precede and follow each field trip. All field trips and related travel arrangements must conform to District field trip regulations and receive approval from the Chief Executive Officer or their designee.

The District prohibits employees from using their positions with the District to influence student participation in any trips or activities with which they have any financial, fiduciary, or other improper interest. Employees may not keep any compensation paid by a field trip venue or travel vendor to a District employee in connection with a field trip or travel. They must immediately transmit such payment to the District.

In planning off-campus activities, staff members must avoid factors that might prohibit student participation. These factors include financial burden and any hazards or barriers for students arising from discriminatory policies or practices in the destination or during transit based on race, religion, culture, gender orientation, sexual identity, or immigration status. Schools should design trips to promote

healthy, safe, and inclusive experiences for all students. Schools must consider the identified special needs and required accommodations of students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and/or plans under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Outside entities seeking to recruit District students for non-District activities may only do so with advance permission from the Network Support Leader and principal and if the activity in question provides an academic or extracurricular benefit to the school community.

    Non-Approved Field Trips

The District prohibits employees from effectuating any non-approved field trips, and the Board assumes no legal or financial responsibilities for non-approved field trips.
